With the galvo scanner, the travel distance of the assemblies or soldering module is reduced to optimise cycle times. Furthermore, the heat input is highly precise, which means that sensitive components are thermally protected.
A galvo scanner is a high-precision, dynamic beam guidance system that can be used in laser processes. The technology enables extremely fast and flexible positioning of the laser beam within the scan field. The scanner optics work with two high-precision mirrors that direct the laser beam in the X and Y directions. The mirrors are mounted on galvanometer motors that can be controlled very quickly and precisely, allowing the laser beam to be moved to a new position within milliseconds. The size of the scan field depends on the focal lengths of the collimating and f-theta lenses used. Eutect uses a scan field of 140 x 140 mm as standard. The combination of high precision, fast process speed and flexible integration enables time-optimised and reliable soldering processes.
This dynamic beam guidance enables the scanner to focus the laser beam specifically and with high precision on the soldering points of the assembly. Thanks to the fast and flexible movements of the beam, even complex soldering geometries can be processed with maximum precision. The highly dynamic control enables precise alignment of the laser beam so that even fine structures can be soldered reliably. The targeted application of heat minimises the thermal load on neighbouring components. At the same time, the fast beam guidance ensures a significant reduction in cycle times, which increases production efficiency. The non-contact heat input via the laser can be targeted without having to move the laser source or the product to be soldered.
The use of the galvo scanner can save considerable time and effort, especially in cycle time-sensitive projects. Furthermore, depending on the laser soldering process and assembly, individual kinematic modules responsible for movement in the X and Y directions can be dispensed with. This applies to the soldering of individual points through to entire lines. The laser with galvo function can also be used for large solder joints, e.g. when soldering contacts onto a film capacitor, to ensure fast and reliable heat input into the large-area solder joint.
The use of a galvo scanner offers significant cost savings through faster, more precise and more efficient process control. As the laser beam is moved extremely quickly and precisely, process times are significantly reduced, resulting in higher productivity and lower costs per unit. A further economic advantage results from the optimised energy distribution of the laser beam, which can reduce the amount of material used, for example for solder or additives. In addition, the galvo scanner works without contact, so that mechanical movements and the associated wear are eliminated, which reduces maintenance and spare parts costs.
The use of a galvo scanner contributes significantly to the high reproducibility of the process, as it enables precise and consistent beam guidance. Thanks to the digital control of the highly dynamic mirrors, the laser beam is positioned exactly so that each solder joint is processed with the same intensity and precision. This results in a constant heat input and prevents temperature fluctuations that could affect the quality of the soldered joint.
A pyrometer is also installed coaxially in the beam path of the galvo scanner, which enables EUTECT process control and thus, in conjunction with the EUTECT SWF, maps a 100% closed-loop process. A camera that looks through the scanner optics is also installed for process visualisation. The speed and focal position of the laser beam are optimised, which leads to a high level of repeat accuracy, particularly in series production. This results in fewer faulty solder joints, which reduces the reject rate and optimises production costs.
The galvo scanner enables precise, uniform and repeatable processing of the solder joints. Thanks to the highly accurate beam guidance, each solder joint is precisely positioned and processed with the temperature-controlled heat input, which prevents typical soldering errors such as insufficient wetting or overheating. This contributes significantly to the consistent quality of the soldered joints. Thanks to the option of seamless process documentation, automated systems from EUTECT also fulfil the requirements for Traceability and quality assurance.
