Thermode soldering system for HOD sensor mats: precision and safety in the steering wheel

EUTECT realises automated soldering system for IEE's hands-off detection system

The increasing automation of vehicles places the highest demands on electronics production. EUTECT has developed a customised, fully automated soldering system for the HOD (Hands-Off-Detection) detection system from IEE S.A., which detects whether the driver is touching the steering wheel. The solution combines precise dispensing and Thermode soldering. This allows sensor mats to be contacted reliably and reproducibly under soft surfaces such as leather.

The system processes 3 mm thin sensor mats with manually inserted cable holders. Two spindle valve dispensers apply solder paste. Three thermode soldering modules, which have a 4-axis system and a high-precision feed axis, then take over the soldering process. Special features, such as the penetration path control with 1 µm accuracy, adaptive contact pressure control and a Intelligent return transport of the cable holders ensure cycle time savings of up to 20%. Thanks to this innovative special system, IEE was able to realise high-quality and economical production for HOD technology.
