The use of galvo scanners for laser soldering

Galvo scanners offer decisive advantages in laser soldering in electronics production, especially when it comes to precision, speed and flexibility. Thanks to the highly dynamic movement of the mirrors, the focussed laser beam can be directed precisely and with high repeat accuracy onto individual soldering points on a PCB, and this in fractions of a second. As no mechanical axes need to be moved, the usual loss of time caused by positioning the assembly or the laser is eliminated, which significantly optimises the cycle time of the entire soldering process. At the same time, the contactless beam guidance enables energy to be applied precisely and gently, reducing thermal stress on surrounding components and avoiding possible damage to the substrate.

Another major advantage is the high flexibility of the Galvo systems. Different blank layouts or changing product variants can be easily adapted on the software side without the need for mechanical changes to the system. This is particularly valuable in modern, multi-variant production lines or when producing small batch sizes. In addition, the precise beam guidance allows very good process control and stability, especially when the galvo scanner is combined with camera systems or pyrometers. This allows the soldering process to be monitored in real time and automatically adjusted if necessary.

Last but not least, users also benefit from reduced maintenance costs, as fewer moving mechanical components are required compared to classic XY axis systems. All in all, galvo scanners help to make laser soldering in electronics production more efficient, reliable and gentle. A decisive technological step for the precise assembly of modern electronic components.
