When the new EU Machinery Regulation (MDR) comes into force on 20 January 2027, the requirements for machinery and existing industrial equipment will change fundamentally. For many companies, this creates a considerable need for action, especially for older production systems and automation solutions.
The new regulation not only increases the requirements for safety, documentation and risk assessment. Modernisation of existing systems may also entail significantly more extensive technical and administrative measures in future. The key question is therefore: act now or bear significantly higher costs and risks later?
EUTECT supports its customers in modernising existing machines and systems in a future-proof manner at an early stage. With comprehensive retrofit solutions, existing systems are brought up to date technically, economically and in terms of safety, in a standards-compliant, efficient and investment-safe manner.
More than just a control unit replacement
EUTECT goes far beyond classic control system replacement projects, as the focus is on modernising existing selective soldering systems. The retrofit concept includes the following measures:
- Replacement of outdated control technology with modern PLC/IPC systems (e.g. Beckhoff)
- New HMI/software solutions incl. process data acquisition
- Retrofit of axis systems and kinematics
- Retrofitting AOI with AI support using existing camera equipment
- Retrofit of the Sensitive Wire Feeder (SWF) for even thinner wires, see SWF with MicroForceControl (MFC)
- Integration of new workpiece carriers or titanium solder masks
- Reuse of existing machine modules (“Cradle to Cradle” approach)
It is particularly relevant that modernisations of existing systems could also trigger significantly more extensive testing, documentation and safety requirements in future. Retrofit projects, which can still be implemented relatively easily today, could become much more complex and cost-intensive from 2027. It is also particularly critical that many older control and drive systems are currently reaching the end of their life cycle. Spare parts are becoming scarce and specialised personnel with experience in old systems are increasingly retiring. At the same time, the requirements for digital documentation, safety and traceability are increasing.
Your added value
The advantage of the EUTECT retrofit concept lies in the fact that proven mechanics and existing machine concepts can continue to be used, while safety, efficiency and future viability increase significantly. Companies often benefit from this:
- lower costs compared to new purchases
- Extension of service life
- Reduction of future compliance risks
- Sustainable maintenance of existing machine solutions
The new Machinery Regulation makes it clear that early action creates economic and technical advantages. Companies that modernise their existing systems today ensure greater flexibility, lower risks and greater investment security in the long term.
